WE DID IT!! Michael worked the phones with the NYS Dept. of Health and coordinated with the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys to get NYS into compliance with the Special Needs Fairness Act that he worked so hard to pass and succeeded in turning into Federal law. Effective May 22, 2017, New York State issued a General Information System message (GIS 17 MA/08) giving disabled New Yorkers the right to establish their own Special Needs Trust without the intervention of a parent, grandparent, guardian or court!
