Estate sale features some possessions with historical significance belonging to former Speaker of the House Jim Wright.

Jim Wright, who spent 34 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and served as Speaker of the House, resigned in 1989 during an ethics investigation. Wright passed away last year at the age of 92 and his wife passed away shortly thereafter leaving behind a large collection of items of historical interest.

Most of those were donated to Texas Christian University, but as the Star-Telegram reports in “At Jim Wright estate sale, pieces of history” many items of interest were recently part of an estate sale.

One item was a program for a Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce breakfast held in honor of President Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. The breakfast took place a few hours before the President was assassinated. Also of note was a Russian coffee table book with a handwritten inscription from Mikhail Gorbachev.

Wright was an avid reader of historical biographers.

Many books in his collection were signed by their subjects. Other items up for sale included gifts from dignitaries and knick-knacks from Air Force One.
